House in Sesimbra
Updated: Feb 7, 2019
Casa em Sesimbra - Brás de Oliveira by Nuno Teotónio Pereira, Nuno Portas, Pedro Vieira de Almeida, 1959-64
On a hilltop overlooking the Sesimbra bay, stands a house built in concrete, wood and stone, well grounded into the rough topography, and half hidden by big pine trees.
Resembling the beehives, the house is composed by hexagonal cells, as many as were needed to accommodate the daily life of family members, housemaids, and the many friends. All the rooms have a balcony with a stunning view.
The volume is absolutely inviting, all the elements were thoroughly designed, the interior space is striking but very peaceful.
The family invited the designer (and friend) KUKAS to do the interior design and a mural. She created a beautiful patchwork of Pombaline tiles.
Spending an afternoon in the House of Sesimbra was an unforgettable experience!
