Meeting engineering experts with Sitowise
Updated: Feb 19, 2019
End October Lisboa Architecture Walks & Trips had the pleasure to to organize a study trip in Lisbon, for a group of professionals from the Finish planning and consulting company Sitowise.
The trip focused on the construction sector: research, practice, and legislation. It was organized in two days, we visited several projects and shared information with several local experts.
We were welcomed by the Centre for Seismic Engineering of LNEC – The National Laboratory of Civil Engineering, to attend a lecture with the Engineer Paulo Xavier Candeias about the cutting-edge research developed by the centre. A presentation 100% in line with the Portuguese concerns for the seismic behavior and vulnerability of buildings, based on a comprehensive overview on the R&D&I experimental studies, using ingenious LNEC-3D shaking tables.
Heading to the east of Lisbon, we have visited the ongoing works of the Prata housing development in Marvila. The visit was oriented by the chief architect of CPU Consultores, the Lisbon partner of Renzo Piano Building Workshop for this project. We were presented to the most challenging and amazing aspects of the project by visiting the construction site, as well as the interiors of the first completed building.
More details about this project in our former blog post: Prata Development – Renzo Piano Housing Project in Lisbon
At the business district of Picoas, we have joined the engineering team of the Portuguese company DDN for a visit to another great project: the office tower building FPM41. The "finishing works" have just begun, under the responsibility of the DDN. Many engineering challenges and solutions were addressed when it comes to build taller. It was amazing touring around the interior spaces, enjoying a great panorama.
Lisbon's architecture was put into perspective by different experts. The trip would not be possible without their availability and expertise. LISBOA ARCHITECTURE WALKS & TRIPS agrees that sharing knowledge is key for the success of companies and projects.
